I gave this to my 99 year old Dad for Fathers Day because he was part if this group. I looked his name up in the index, staff Sargeant Thomas R Wholley and we were so surprised to read what he had written in an article some years ago about a specific crash. He was in tears, so moved by seeing the photos some if which he hadn’t seen before and photos if people he knew.

Only book I know of that covers this unit. Excellent book with many pictures and maps tells the story from start to finish of this unit. This book also tells each mission flown and the battle losses of each aircraft. One Important portion of the book that I found interesting was the engagement with the weather over Europe, and the many missions that could not be counted for because the target was not engaged. Very good book on this unit!

As the daughter of a B24 Liberator pilot and POW at Barth the last nine months of the war, I am grateful that his BG now has its own documented history. I only wish Dad had lived to read it, as he contributed in his small way via email correspondence with Mr. Scorza. (Unfortunately he died a month shy of his 90th birthday shortly before the book was published.) The book gave me a comprehensive understanding of the 458’s role in the war, and the photos are terrific!
